Terms of Service
Effective date: 22 May 2026 Last updated: 10 June 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you ("you", "your") and Abolfazl Esmaeilinejad, an individual sole trader established in the Netherlands operating the Mintrin service ("Mintrin", "we", "us", "our").
The Terms govern your use of the Mintrin mobile and web applications, the websites at mintrin.app, and any related features and content we provide (together, the "Service").
Please read these Terms carefully. By creating an account, tapping "Continue" on the signup screen, or otherwise using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What Mintrin is
Mintrin is a social network that lets you track the books, films, television series, video games, music, podcasts, and articles you consume, and share short reviews of them with other users. The Service uses third-party catalogue sources to identify the media you log but does not stream, host, or play that media itself.
The Service is provided free of charge. We may introduce paid features in the future; if we do, we will give you advance notice and you will be able to decline.
2. Eligibility
You may use Mintrin only if:
- You are at least 13 years old. If the law of your country of residence sets a higher minimum age for online services or for consent to the processing of personal data (for example, 14 in Spain, 15 in the Czech Republic and France, 16 in Germany and the Netherlands), that higher age applies to you. We do not knowingly allow anyone below the applicable minimum age to create an account. See the Privacy Policy for details.
- You have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract in the country where you live. If you are a minor above the applicable minimum age, you confirm that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed these Terms and consents to your use of the Service.
- You are not prohibited from using the Service under the laws of your country of residence or of any country to which we are subject, and you are not on a government sanctions, embargo, or denied-parties list.
If we become aware that you do not meet these eligibility requirements, we will suspend or delete your account.
3. Your account
3.1 Creating an account
You can sign up with an email address and password or by linking a third-party identity provider (currently Google and Apple). We deliver account and security emails through our authentication and email service providers.
You must provide accurate information, keep it up to date, and verify your email address when we ask. Unverified accounts have limited access.
At signup you choose a display name; we generate a unique @handle from it that you can change later. You can add a short bio and a profile picture (avatar) from your device. You can mark your profile as Public or Private at any time in Settings.
3.2 One account, one person
Each account is personal to you. You may not share your account, sell it, transfer it, let anyone else use it, or maintain more than one account for the purpose of evading suspension or inflating engagement. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.
3.3 Keeping your credentials safe
Choose a strong password (we require at least 12 characters with upper case, lower case, digit, and symbol). Do not reuse passwords from other services. If you suspect someone else has access to your account, change your password immediately, sign out of other sessions from Settings → Active devices and sessions, and contact us at support@mintrin.app.
3.4 Active devices and sessions
You can see a list of devices and sessions signed into your account and revoke any of them at any time from Settings → Active devices and sessions. When you revoke a session, it is invalidated immediately and that device is signed out shortly after.
3.5 Deletion and data export
- Delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete. Deletion is final: after a short grace period we permanently remove your account, posts, comments, likes, bookmarks, follows, blocks, and avatar. See the Privacy Policy — section 7 for what we keep (and for how long) after deletion.
- Export your data from Settings → Account → Download my data. We will deliver a machine-readable export of your profile, posts, comments, social graph, and related metadata within the time-frames required by applicable law (no later than 30 days under the GDPR).
3.6 Notifications
We send you in-app notifications about activity on your account (likes, follows, replies, mentions, and the outcome of any moderation action) in the Activity tab. If you grant permission at the OS level, we also deliver these as push notifications. You can turn push off at any time in your device's notification settings, or by signing out of the device. Account and security notices that we are required to send (for example, a sign-in alert or a password-reset confirmation) reach you by email regardless of your push settings.
4. Third-party sign-in
If you sign in with Google or Apple (or any other identity provider we add later), you authorise that provider to share with us the information described in our Privacy Policy — section 2 (typically your email address, name, and profile picture). Your use of that provider is governed by its own terms and privacy policy. Signing out of Mintrin does not sign you out of the provider.
You can unlink a third-party provider in Settings → Account → Linked accounts at any time, provided you have another way to sign in (a password or a second provider).
5. Your content
5.1 What counts as "your content"
"Your Content" means anything you submit to the Service: your display name and @handle, bio, profile picture, posts (reviews), your one-tap rating, comments and replies, likes, bookmarks, follows, blocks, reports, the library entries, ratings, and notes you bring in from other services, and any other text, image, or data you upload.
5.2 You own it
You keep all rights you have in Your Content. We do not claim ownership of it.
5.3 License you grant to Mintrin
So that we can operate the Service, you grant Mintrin a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, transferable licence to host, store, cache, reproduce, adapt (for example, to create thumbnails and to remove embedded location and camera metadata from your avatar), publicly display, publicly perform, and distribute Your Content, and to make it available to other users according to the privacy settings you choose (public feed, followers only, etc.).
This licence:
- Exists only for the purposes of operating, providing, securing, improving, and promoting the Service and features we offer today or add later in the normal course.
- Ends when you delete the piece of content or your account — except that (i) copies already shared with other users (for example, a screenshot another user took) are outside our control, and (ii) we may retain backup copies for a limited period as described in the Privacy Policy — section 7.
- Does not give us the right to sell Your Content, to use it in paid advertising where you are the endorser, or to license it to third parties outside of the operation of the Service, without your separate permission.
5.4 License you grant to other users
When you post or comment on a Public profile, or follow a Private profile that accepts your request, other users can view, like, bookmark, quote, reply, and share the link to that content within Mintrin. That is how the Service works.
5.5 Your representations
By submitting any content, you represent and warrant that:
- You own it, or have all rights and permissions necessary to submit it and to grant us the licence above.
- Submitting it does not breach any contract, law, intellectual-property right, privacy right, publicity right, or any other right of any third party.
- The content does not violate these Terms, including the acceptable-use rules in section 6.
You are solely responsible for Your Content and for the consequences of submitting it.
5.6 Media metadata from third parties
When you log a book, film, TV show, video game, album, song, podcast, or article, we identify it using third-party catalogue sources (see section 9). The cover art, title, author, cast, and other metadata shown to you belong to their respective rights-holders; we display it under the terms of those sources and attribute them in-app.
5.7 Feedback
If you send us suggestions or feedback, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use it without restriction and without compensation to you. You agree that feedback is not confidential.
5.8 Imports from other services
Mintrin lets you upload your own export from services like Goodreads and Letterboxd to bring your library into Mintrin. You may only upload an export that belongs to you, and you are responsible for any third-party information it contains (for example, friends' names that the source service included). Imported entries are treated as Your Content under this section 5.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Abuse people. Harass, bully, threaten, stalk, defame, dox, impersonate, or incite violence against any person or group; target individuals with hate, slurs, or content promoting or glorifying discrimination based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, age, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or serious illness.
- Post prohibited content. Upload or share sexual content involving minors (we report to NCMEC where required), non-consensual intimate imagery, terrorist or violent-extremist content, content that promotes self-harm or suicide, or other content prohibited by these Terms or by applicable law.
- Break the law. Use the Service to commit or facilitate any crime, fraud, or tort; infringe intellectual-property or privacy rights; evade sanctions; or violate export-control law.
- Spam, manipulate, or deceive. Create fake accounts, inflate likes/follows/engagement, run bots or automation that we have not approved, spam comments, phish, or impersonate Mintrin staff.
- Attack the Service. Probe, scan, or test the security of the Service without prior written consent; circumvent rate limits, authentication, authorization, or security controls; reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service except where that right cannot be excluded by law; overload, disrupt, or interfere with the Service or the networks it uses.
- Scrape or bulk-export. Crawl, scrape, index, or otherwise collect content or personal data from the Service except through the public interfaces we publish, and only within documented limits. The Service and its content are not licensed for training third-party machine-learning or large-language models without our explicit written permission.
- Misuse third-party data. Use metadata we obtain from any third-party catalogue source in a way that violates that provider's terms.
We may remove content, limit features, suspend, or terminate accounts that break these rules.
7. Reporting content and moderation
- Reports. You can report a post, comment, profile, or message from the
⋯menu or atsupport@mintrin.app. We review reports against these Terms and applicable law. - Moderation actions. Depending on severity and context, we may: leave the content up; add a warning label; remove the content; restrict distribution (for example, exclude from public discovery); warn, restrict, suspend, or permanently ban the account; or preserve and disclose information as required by law. We retain a record of moderation actions to enforce repeat-offender rules.
- Appeals. If we take action against you, we will tell you and explain the reason (subject to legal exceptions). You can appeal within 14 days by replying to our notice or writing to
legal@mintrin.app. Where the EU Digital Services Act applies, you retain the right to use out-of-court dispute settlement bodies and to seek judicial redress; this does not affect those rights. - Law-enforcement and legal requests. We respond to validly issued requests according to our legal-process guidelines and preserve records for the minimum time required by law.
8. Community standards
We expect everyone on Mintrin to treat other users with respect and to help keep the platform safe. Do not post content that is illegal, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit involving minors, deceptive, or otherwise prohibited under section 6. We may remove content, limit features, suspend, or permanently remove accounts that fall short of these standards, and we may do so without prior notice in cases of serious or repeated violations.
9. Third-party services and attribution
The Service uses the following third-party catalogue sources to identify and display information about the media you log. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or certified by any of them.
- The Movie Database (TMDB) — films and TV. "This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB."
- Google Books — books. "Book metadata powered by Google Books."
- OpenLibrary — books (fallback). "Book metadata also sourced from the OpenLibrary community under CC0 where available."
- RAWG — video games. "Game data provided by RAWG."
- Apple iTunes Search — music and podcasts. "Music and podcast metadata courtesy of Apple Music / Apple Podcasts, © Apple Inc."
These providers' terms, availability, and data may change without notice to us; we do not guarantee any particular piece of metadata will remain available.
Third-party identity providers (Google and Apple) and other service providers we rely on to operate the Service are listed in the Privacy Policy — section 4.
Export sources. Goodreads and Letterboxd are the export sources we currently accept files from (with more planned). We do not connect to these services on your behalf and we have no business relationship with them; you obtain the export yourself from the source service and upload it to Mintrin.
10. Intellectual property
10.1 Our rights
Mintrin, the Mintrin name, the Mintrin logos, the design and feel of the Service, and all software, text, graphics, sounds, and other materials we provide (other than Your Content and third-party metadata) are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service as offered, solely for your personal, non-commercial use, and strictly in line with these Terms.
10.2 Trademarks
"Mintrin" and our logos are our trademarks. Do not use them without our prior written permission, except for fair, factual reference to our Service.
11. Copyright complaints (DMCA / EU Directive)
If you believe content on Mintrin infringes your copyright, send a notice to legal@mintrin.app including:
- An electronic or physical signature of the rights-holder or authorized agent.
- Identification of the work claimed to be infringed.
- Identification of the material claimed to be infringing, with a link or enough detail for us to locate it.
- Your contact details.
- A statement, made in good faith, that the use is not authorized by the rights-holder, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are authorized to act for the rights-holder.
We will respond in accordance with the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512) and Article 17 of EU Directive 2019/790, remove or disable access to clearly infringing content, and, where required, notify the user who posted it. Repeat infringers' accounts will be terminated. If you submit a counter-notice, we will forward it to the complainant.
Designated agent: Abolfazl Esmaeilinejad, legal@mintrin.app.
12. Suspension and termination
- By you. You can stop using the Service at any time and can delete your account as described in section 3.5.
- By us. We may suspend or terminate your account, or remove or restrict your content, at any time if: (a) you breach these Terms; (b) a prolonged period of inactivity has passed (we will email you first); (c) we are required by law or by a court, regulator, or law-enforcement authority; (d) continuing would expose us or another user to material risk, legal liability, or harm. We will give you reasonable prior notice where it is safe and legal to do so.
- Effect. On termination, the licence in section 10.1 ends. Sections that by their nature should survive (including 5.3, 5.5, 5.7, 10, 13, 14, 15, and 16) survive.
13. Disclaimers
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of your country of residence, including your statutory rights as a consumer.
Subject to that, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uninterrupted or error-free operation, and the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of third-party metadata.
You rely on the Service at your own risk. We are not responsible for content posted by other users or for actions they take.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or anticipated savings, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service.
- Our aggregate liability to you in any 12-month period will not exceed €100 (one hundred euros) or the amount you paid us during that period, whichever is greater.
If you are a consumer resident in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction that does not permit the limitations above, these limits do not apply to: (a) our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence; (b) our liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; (c) our liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct; or (d) any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under mandatory local law. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to foreseeable damages resulting from a breach of essential contractual obligations.
15. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold Mintrin and its officers, employees, and agents harmless from any claim, demand, loss, or damage (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of (a) Your Content, (b) your use of the Service, (c) your breach of these Terms, or (d) your violation of any law or third-party right. This provision does not apply to consumers where prohibited by mandatory local law.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms and any dispute arising out of them or the Service are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.
The courts of Amsterdam, the Netherlands have exclusive jurisdiction, except that:
- If you are a consumer resident in the EEA or the UK, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections of your local law, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence. You can also use the European Commission's online dispute-resolution platform at
https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. - If you are a consumer resident in the United States, these Terms do not waive your statutory right to pursue small-claims remedies where available.
17. Platform-specific terms
17.1 Apple App Store
If you downloaded the Mintrin iOS app from the Apple App Store, you acknowledge and agree that:
- These Terms are between you and Mintrin only, not with Apple. Mintrin is solely responsible for the Service and its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple; Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Mintrin (not Apple) is responsible for any product-liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to law, and third-party claims that the app or your use of it infringes intellectual-property rights.
- You represent that you are not in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated by the US Government as a "terrorist-supporting" country, and you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
17.2 Google Play
If you downloaded the Mintrin Android app from Google Play, your use is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. To the extent those terms conflict with these Terms, the Google Play terms prevail as required by Google.
18. Changes to these Terms
We may change these Terms from time to time. If a change is material, we will notify you at least 30 days before it takes effect (by email, in-app notice, or both). Your continued use of the Service after the effective date is your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Service and may delete your account; the previous version will still govern your prior use.
19. Miscellaneous
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and Mintrin regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreement.
- Severability. If a court finds any provision unenforceable, the rest remains in effect and the unenforceable provision is modified to the minimum extent needed to make it enforceable.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
- Assignment. You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our consent. We may assign ours, in whole or in part, in connection with a reorganization, merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, or by operation of law; we will notify you of any such assignment.
- Language. These Terms are drafted in English. We may provide translations for convenience, but the English version prevails in case of conflict, except where mandatory local law provides otherwise.
